TERRAVISTA - A wise judge once told me, “don’t even bother doing the form” when a good horse dropping back sharply in grade despite the weight it carries and this is a perfect case of that. The last time Terravista raced below Group II level was in November 2015 when he split Redzel and Hellbent, both upcoming Group I winners in a Listed sprint at Flemington. Prior to that you have to go back to March 2014 to find his previous start below Group I or Group II level. This is an off season listed race and he’s only got 61kg. I know he’s past his best but this is well below the level he’s been racing at and he was ok late in the Challenge Stakes last time. His fresh record is also superb.
DYNAMITED - I pegged him early in the season prior to his debut and he didn’t let me down. I’m sticking solid. The fact that Godolphin have taken him straight to Brisbane gives me enough confidence to say he’s ready for a 1200m contest despite only one 700m trial where he was cruising along in second. He’s a horse with tactical speed, could race right on the pace or sit behind them. Reckon he’s a good horse and wouldn’t have been out of place during the Sydney autumn so I’m not going to be turned off him during the winter in Brisbane.
FUNDAMENTALIST - Another of the seamlessly endless supply of quality two-year-olds that Lindsay Park are able to produce appears to again be on show here with this filly ideally placed to add to her strong Listed win from two starts back. In fact it was her last start runner-up effort when taking a stack of late ground off all the way winner and favourite for this race, Tequila Time, which gives us further confidence the step up to 1400m is absolutely ideal. With tempo predicted to be more than solid up front, expecting this Not A Single Doubt filly to again be charging hard late and at the current $4.40 must rate as at least one of the day's better investments.
PEACEFUL STATE - Genuine Group I quality colt that produced a herculean effort to get up and score when having first South Australian run last start after coming off a seven week break. Two runs prior to that again came with a massive sprint when runner-up in Grunt's Group I Australian Guineas. Those formlines are simply better than any of these would even dream of, and given likely further improvement, expect this bloke to display his authority by putting these to the sword and scoring comfortably. Rates a genuine $1.60 chance in our books and given the boost promotion on offer with many of the corporates, if punters can secure something in the vicinity of $2.10-$2.20 then take advantage of what looks a cracking investment! Having said that will also recommend taking Sircconi ($12) in the quinella.
TANGLED - Super honest staying prospect coming into this year's Derby off the back of three straight placings including both in Group I Rosehill Guineas & Australian Derby. Also far from disgraced in last year's Victorian Derby further emphasising the class this bloke has on most of his rivals in this. Expect those formlines to stack up for this much lesser affair….especially at the most generous $7 being offered! Having said that also more than keen to get involved with Main Stage with the current $12 also making plenty of appeal whilst High ‘n ‘ Dry ($6) rates as the big improver.
